Ben Lawler Assignment 5
I think the issue that a lot of people have with liking math is that they don't see it as something useful or applicable. I tutor several different math classes, and I frequently hear "Why do I need to know this? I'm never going to use it". It is easy for people to see how useful reading is, even if they don't like it, but math doesn't have as many obvious applications, especially at higher levels. I think to get more people interested in math and seeing it as something valuable, the conversation needs to be about how it can be applied. Unfortunately, just generating more conversation about math will not convince politicians to increase funding for it.
